Pear Head 62965 Review by CM (Oregon)

I got this same product in 2008 and again in 2011. The frame is about the same quality as the first and is the same size. The putty however was very wet and difficult to work with this time around. The rolling pin that comes with the 2011 version is useless because it just sticks to the putty. After many frustrating attempts to flatten the dough, I finally ended up putting it in the fridge for about 10 minutes, then pressing it in between two flat cutting boards with wax paper on either side of the putty. Then when it was flat we I sprinkled baby powder all over the top so the baby's foot wouldn't stick (as it had many try's before). This worked great! Then you can simply blow off the excess baby powder revealing a nice print. You still need to follow the directions that come with it to dry it for 5 hours, flip it and continue to dry (so it doesn't curl). The blue mounting board that came with the 2011 version was awful. It is extremely faded, almost a dull greyish green color. The pink is still nice and bright on the other side.

the color poster board for the background is cheap. i wanted to display the blue side for my son's footprint, but it literally faded before my eyes. it was so light when it arrived, it almost looked green. in a few weeks the "blue" turned white. i had to tape scrapbooking paper to the poster board to use as the background color for the imprint. the wood on the frame itself isn't very nice either. it was easy, however, to roll out the foam and take my son's footprint.

The "clay" is seriously hard to use. The rolling pin to flatten it is useless because the clay just sticks to it. Other tips, if you want to prevent the clay from sticking to your baby's foot, you can put some lotion on his/her foot. The oil will help prevent the clay from sticking. Dont wash your hands before handling the clay, the oil on your hands help with handling the clay. If you do wash your hands, you should again use moisturizer on your hands.

Really poorly designed clay. Otherwise the other components such as the frame and matte are fine.
